Dr. Sweet

William Sweet is a NOAA Oceanographer leading agency effort tracking and predicting changes in sea level and coastal flood risk to support sound decision making. He leads NOAA’s annual high tide flood assessment, is the lead author for the U.S. Interagency Sea Level Rise Task Force’s 2017 and 2022 reports and is a chapter author for the 4th and on-going 5th National Climate Assessments.  He is a co-lead of the U.S. Department of Defense’s Coastal Assessment Regional Scenario Working Group responsible for the Defense Regional Sea Level database required for all DoD coastal planning.  William received his bachelors from UNC Chapel Hill and his master’s and Ph.D. from N.C. State University.
