How long have you been in your current role?
Since August 2017, but have been in higher education emergency management/business continuity for over 15 years.
What would you say to someone thinking about joining BRMA?
BRMA is a vibrant organization of practitioners with diverse backgrounds and subject matter expertise. You can access a wealth of knowledge and experience.
How did you get started in the industry?
I received my MS in Environmental Sciences and thought I would be cleaning up groundwater contamination sites. Right out of school, I started with an environmental firm that also provided emergency response and business continuity planning services for many different government agencies, non-profit and for profit organizations. I really enjoyed thinking about different kinds of hazards and how to mitigate, plan, respond, and recover from those events.
What qualifications / certifications do you hold?
I hold a Certified Emergency Manager credential from the International Association of Emergency Managers.
What is your proudest professional achievement(s)?
One of my proudest professional achievements was to chair a committee that planned and hosted a personal/family preparedness outdoor street fair for the Palo Alto and Stanford communities. I received special recognition from Congresswoman Anna Eshoo for that work.
What is the title and author of the last book you read?
We Fed an Island: The True Story of Rebuilding Puerto Rico, One Meal at a Time by Jose Andres. A great read for those in the restaurant/hospitality sector as well as mass care and shelter.
Which industry-related conference did you last attend?
I lasted attended the University and College Caucus 2017 Symposium at the International Association of Emergency Managers Annual Conference.
What organizations do you volunteer with?
I volunteer extensively at my son’s Parent Teacher Association.
What is your favorite hobby?
I have two favorites; camping and knitting. When I get to do both, it is absolute heaven.
