Solve the blind spot: Up–level your communications preparedness!
Communications is the blind spot in most business resilience programs. Poor messaging and delayed communication can torpedo even the strongest operational response to a crisis. Without a crisis communications plan and without knowledgeable leaders, your organization’s reputation will suffer. Yet true communications preparedness is hard to come by. Studies show only half of US companies have a crisis communications plan. Many of the plans that do exist are outdated, non-actionable, and unpracticed. The problem lies in how decision-makers see the role of communications in preparedness, and in what communicators have to offer. Shannon Berg, APR, is the founder of the award-winning crisis communications consulting firm Berg & Associates. In this discussion, Shannon will reveal a new strategy for making the case for communications planning. She will explore how to engage communicators in a more integrated approach to crisis communications, and how to bring communicators into the tent as partners in resilience.
Session participants will learn:
- The five steps to transform communications from a blind spot to a core strength
- How to bring communicators into your tent and reframe their thinking on the role of crisis communications
- Key components of an actionable crisis communications program
- Why and how you – business resilience professionals – must lead the way!
